How to Read These Specifications
Each column in the tables above measures something specific. Here's what each figure actually means.
The length of the barrel, measured from the muzzle to the breech face. Longer barrels generally produce higher muzzle velocity and a longer sight radius for improved accuracy. Measured in inches.
The total length of the pistol from the rear of the slide to the muzzle. This figure determines holster compatibility and how easily the pistol conceals.
The widest point of the pistol, usually across the slide stop lever or the frame. Slimline models (G43, G43X, G48) are noticeably narrower than double-stack models.
The vertical measurement from the top of the rear sight to the base of the inserted magazine. This determines how the pistol prints when carried.
Pistol weight with an empty magazine inserted. This is the figure most relevant for carry — loaded weight adds 5–8 oz depending on caliber and capacity.
Measured in Newtons (N). Glock's Safe Action trigger typically breaks between 24 N and 28 N — roughly 5.4 to 6.3 pounds. Gen5 models are consistently at the lighter end.
Common Questions About Glock Specifications
What does the "capacity" figure mean — 15+1, 17+1?
The first number is how many rounds fit in the magazine. The "+1" refers to one additional round that can be carried in the chamber. So a 15+1 pistol holds 15 in the magazine and one in the chamber — 16 total rounds ready to fire. This is standard notation across the firearms industry.
Why is the G43's capacity only 6+1?
The G43 uses a single-stack magazine — the cartridges stack in a single column rather than two. This allows for a much thinner, lighter pistol (1.06 in wide, 17.99 oz) but limits capacity. It's the tradeoff for maximum concealability. The G43X and G48 use a wider single-stack design that holds 10+1 in a similarly slim package.
Does barrel length affect accuracy?
Longer barrels don't inherently make a pistol more mechanically accurate, but they provide two practical advantages: a longer sight radius (which makes aiming easier) and higher muzzle velocity (which flattens trajectory). A longer barrel also adds weight, which reduces felt recoil. The G34 and G17L are popular competition models for exactly these reasons.
What's the difference between overall width and slide width?
Overall width includes everything that protrudes from the frame — the slide stop lever, the magazine release, and the frame itself. Slide width is just the slide. For holster compatibility, overall width matters most. For understanding how thin the pistol is, slide width is more relevant.
Why do some models have identical barrel lengths but different overall lengths?
Because the frame and slide length can differ independently of barrel length. For example, the G19 and G45 both have a 4.02-inch barrel, but the G45 pairs that compact slide with a full-size frame — making it 0.16 inches longer overall (7.44 in vs. 7.28 in) while offering 17+1 capacity instead of 15+1. This is the "crossover" design principle.
Do MOS versions have different specifications?
No. As Glock confirms, "Technical data also applicable for MOS configuration." The MOS cut adds a mounting system to the slide but does not change barrel length, overall dimensions, weight, or capacity. The one exception is height — some MOS models with a mounted optic will be slightly taller, but the pistol itself is identical.
What's the lightest Glock model?
The G44 at 14.64 oz (415 g) with an empty magazine — but it's chambered in .22 LR. Among centerfire models, the G43 is the lightest at 17.99 oz (510 g) with an empty magazine, followed by the G43X at 18.70 oz (530 g). Both are slimline single-stack 9mm pistols designed specifically for concealed carry.
Why is the trigger pull listed in Newtons instead of pounds?
Glock is an Austrian company and reports trigger pull in Newtons (N) — the SI unit of force. To convert to pounds, multiply by 0.2248. So a 26 N trigger pull is approximately 5.85 pounds, and 28 N is approximately 6.29 pounds. American shooters typically refer to Glock triggers as "5.5 to 6.5 pound" pulls.
